CADWA 2   508    -    LINACRE   475

Played at Merseyside Police Club Wednesday 21st March,    match official Graham Rollinson

Cadwa 2.  h/cap 148  ( Graeme Black, Peter Roberts & John Ashley )  v  Linacre  h/cap 213  ( Harry Reeve, Harry Nelson & Jack Davidson ). Linacre won the toss for the away spot and as the playing order is already set, Harry R. went on against No. 2 Peter, Harry won both games but Peter battled away to put 31 points onto the score. The gap has increased to 76 in Linacres’ favour, but the next set on between John and Harry N. didn’t go as expected, John was determined not to lose rather than win, and his perseverance in getting everything back pushed Harry into going for too many hits, Harry struggled with the table, and John’s pushing, plus a bit of bad luck, John winning the first 21 – 9, Harry settled a bit winning the next game, but John added another 18. Third set was Cadwa’s Graeme v Jack, Graeme did as was expected, won his two, restricting Jack to 14 points. The next 3 sets went in Cadwa’s favour, John playing out of his skin to win both games against Harry R. Peter winning both against Jack, but Jack putting up a better fight, and Harry N. took the first game off Graeme 21 – 19, but suffered  for it by only getting 5 from the second game. So after 6 sets played Cadwa have cleared the 65 point handicap and are now 1 point in front. John beat Jack in two, 15 & 13,  Peter beat Harry N. in two, 11 & 18, final set of the night finished even, one game each to Graeme and Harry, but left the final score Cadwa winning by 33 points. If Linacre could have started the way they finished, would it have been different, maybe not, as I felt Cadwa had that little extra in reserve, but I think Linacre played a bit below their normal standard, and must have been a little disappointed in their early performance. Another good final, once again Marjorie Murphy and party Sue and Dave were in attendance to present the Cups, and provide excellent after match refreshments for all, thanks to them for their continued support.
