Division 4 - The Forrest Cup Final

Manweb C  v Police B

The two teams were  Jason Ao, Alvin Tso, Ben Chen & Robert Wong for Manweb ‘C and Len Dyson, John Moore, Alan Cameron & Tommy Lynch for Police ‘B’

Police won the toss and chose the first call, captain Len Dyson securing a comfortable 11-4, 11-3, 10-12, 11-5 win against Alvin Tso. Jason Ao, who has suffered just one league reversal to date, took the first game against John Moore, although the next required 36 points to determine a winner. The young Manweb man, though, won 19-17 before another tight 13-11 game went his way to level the match.
Tommy Lynch then enjoyed a straight games success for Police against Robert Wong to restore their lead.  Manweb then, surprisingly, called on Alvin Tso against Alan Cameron, having already tasted defeat but, he put his early loss behind him, making no mistake winning for the loss of one game.
The fifth set, the first to go against the call, saw John Moore go down over four games to Ben Chan. This left Manweb, who won the cup for the first time in 1948, at 4-2 and within one win of lifting the cup, when Jason Ao beat Len Dyson 3-1.  Alan Cameron reduced the arrears, also 3-1 against Robert Wong but the old trophy, first competed for in 1934, went to the Thingwall Road side with a set to spare - Ben Chan beating Tommy Lynch 13-11, 11-6, 11-9 to emerge victorious by 5 sets to 3.   Their next target is to complete the 'double', lying a point adrift of fourth division leaders Wavertree Labour C, but, with a match in hand.
  Match in Order of play:
A Tso lost to L Dyson -4, -3, 10, -5; J Ao bt J Moore 6, 17, 11;  R Wong lost to T Lynch -7, -8, -8;  Tso bt A Cameron 6, 7, -7, 6;  B Chan bt Moore 9, -12, 8, 11;  Ao bt Dyson
